Day 5 We awake to an overcast and cooler day in Marlborough wine country and we’re playing with the locals today.
I played golf at The Rarangi Golf Club with Ross - a battle against a couple of locals for bragging rights - The golf not so tidy and we end up going down 2 and 1 and are abliged to shout the first round at the 19th hole. A good days golf with some very welcoming locals.
Melissa heads out for a palatese class with Joss followed by a bicycle ride through the vineyards. The day ends with a BBQ with Ross and Joss and some of their extended family and the evening very pleasant as we learn more about the region and it’s fine wine industry and enjoy some local wine including a 2014 Whitehaven Dessert wine which to say the least was fabulous, the company and the fare as hospitable as you can get.
We prepare for our move to Nelson for the next part of our journey.
After a good nights sleep Day 6 starts and the weather has turned to rain and the forecast gloomy,
With Ross and Joss kindly taking us over

to Nelson, we head off for the drive over the range which is a spectacular drive through the valley and sweeping bends of the ranges passing farmlands and pine plantations with a coffee stop at Havelock we find our way to Nelson and arrive to our other good Trans Tasman friends Kim and Denise. This is the first time ”The Savvy Six” have all been together since the Gold Coast last year and it’s terrific to catch up, We say our fairwells to Ross and Joss as they head back to Blenhiem, we will be catching up again later in the week when we venture further south on our journey.
Enjoying a lovely home cooked meal of Pasta and a little too much wine we settle in and catch a Netflix movie “The Whale” which is a deep and haunting story - sleep beckons and the excitement of another days travel awaits.
