France: Brittany and Normandy 2018

We arrived at Newark airport at 8:30 pm three hours before our flight took off, which as it turned out was not enough time. Our supposed airline was Iberia. After wandering the terminal for 15 min unsuccessfully, I asked a police officer "Where is Iberia?". He took pity on us and escorted us to OpenSkies which actually was Iberia (go figure). Unfortunately, this airline does not allow advanced check-in and we found ourselves on a long check-in line. When we got to the front of the line the agent said we had to pay $70 each to check our bags, by now we didn’t care what they charged, “Just get us to the plane”. Their computer kept overcharging us for our bags and the agent had to get her manager who also couldn’t get it to work. Finally, the manager said "Have a nice trip" and our bags went through with no charge. Next, we faced another long line at the security check. When we were almost through we heard someone shouting “Is there any one here for our flight”. They whipped us out to our gate and threw us onboard. The plane took off and the staff basically shut off the lights and said good night. No food or beverage were offered. If you wanted a blanket or water you had to pay. No need for a blanket since everyone was sitting on top of each other, the temperature was cozy. They had bathrooms and didn't even charge to use them. Halfway through the 6 hour flight I was very thirsty and went to the kitchen where a Steward was sleeping so I helped myself to bottled water. Six hours later we arrived in France hungry and tired. Thank God we had packed food in our carry-on bags or we would have starved to death. When we landed we were dumped out on the tarmac and had to wait for a shuttle to the terminal. When we looked at the name on the tail of our plane it was Level not Iberia, not OpenSkies. When we got to the terminal we waited 1/2 hour to get through customs and then another 20 min for our bags. Now to find the Alamo car rental desk, no one was there. We waited on line for National car rental, right next door, they all seem to work together. They could help us. They issued us a car and sent us on a 5 block walk and down a floor involving a search for an elevator for Jim’s soon to become famous ‘giant bag’.
