This was our penultimate day of walking the Camino. Although we were excited to reach Santiago, we did not want this unique experience to end!
The same young lady who served us dinner served us breakfast. The solitary gentleman was an early riser and had left before we came down!
Today's walk was pleasant and most of it was through shaded forests and woods of eucalyptus, oak, pine and birch. We were now familiar with several pilgrims and there was a general excitement that we will be arriving in Santiago in a day’s time!
Lunch was at Meson A Esquipa, the usual glass of beer with a salad. Once we resumed after lunch, the last few km seemed to drag on and we were feeling the strain on our calves and knees. The heat was unbearable. We plodded on till we got to our hotel at Pedrouzo – Hostal Platas. We checked in, stretched our tired legs and immediately went down to one of the bars in the street for a cold one! Then we showered, rested and went to get dinner. We indulged in a bacon pizza and ice cream! As we strolled down the street back to our hotel, we stopped every two minutes to exchange greetings with fellow pilgrims with whom we have been walking the camino for the past few days. We shared the same sentiments – excitement and a sense of loss that the journey would be over. We went to bed early since we wanted to wake up early and reach Santiago by 11 am. Our goal was to attend the pilgrim’s mass at 12 noon at the Santiago Cathedral.
Where I stayed
Pension Residencial Platas - Avenida Lugo n. 26, O Pino, Spain
I rated this place 4/5 - Pleasant and convenient!
Clean, bright, great location, friendly staff. They serve breakfast early (next door cafe) so you can have an early start)
