Triacastela, Galicia, Spain and Canary Islands

We were leaving one of the highest points on the camino and the most scenic (in my opinion) views. There would be a lot of downhill today, since we were coming down to about 700m. About a km after we let O'Cebreiro, we passed the Pilgrim’s Monument. The bright sunlight was making it difficult for us. and everyone else to get a good picture beside the pilgrim. We took one anyway and continued on the camino. We had an encounter soon after with a pilgrim that I have since labeled the 'camino miracle’. Rememebr Mr. Las Vegas? He was the first pilgrim we passed when we left Astorga on our first day – way back on July 5. We had not mentioned his name or talked about him since. As we were climbing up a steep hill on our way to Triacastela, for no apparent reason, I called out to my husband, who was a few steps ahead – ‘I wonder what happened to Mr. Las Vegas?’ He promptly replied – ‘Here he is!’. I presumed he was joking. But no. At the exact moment I posed the question, he ran into Mr. Vegas! He was resting beside a rock and having a smoke! This was more than a coincidence for me – what were the chances!!
We soon arrived at Triacastela, hot and tired! The couple of beers we had on the way had fueled us this far. It was too hot to eat solid food! We checked into our hotel for the day – Casa David. It was a clean and friendly place with a bar/café, but no restaurant. We were hungry upon our arrival (it was around 3pm) and had no energy to walk down the street looking for a restaurant. We went to the bar/café and the kind owners made us toast and orange juice. Back in our rooms, we showered and washed our clothes and after a short rest, went out to get some dinner. After a delicious meal of salad, fried trout, almond cake and the usual bottle of red wine, we returned to our room and were asleep almost immediately. We had a long trek tomorrow to Sarria with a detour to Samos.
Where I stayed
Hotel Casa David - , Triacastela, Spain
I rated this place 4/5 - Pleasant!
Rooms were bright and clean. Colorful compound and laundry facilities for pilgrims. Excellent cafe/bar and welcoming staff.
