Marissa Baietto Immigration Diary

Dear Diary,
I have lived in America for almost a year now, and I couldn’t be happier. Getting my green card was very exciting, and Scott and I went out to celebrate. I also got my job permit, and now work in an office. It’s not teaching, but I’m thankful to get such a nice job.
I don’t know where I would be if I hadn’t moved to America. I would probably still have the same job and would have continued to live in Finland. It seems that the Americans don’t realize how much of a privilege it is to live here. There are so many opportunities, and the atmosphere is so friendly most of the time. My favorite part of America is how diverse it is. You can drive two hours and be in a totally different climate. There are so many different heritages and diverse people here.
I still talk to my family sometimes, and I love to get together with my in-laws. They are so nice to me, and I am glad that I have them. This is my last diary entry, as my trip is over and I’ve started a new chapter in my life. It feels like it’s been years since I got off of the plane with high expectations, and those expectations have been met.
