United Kingdom and Ireland 2017

Singapore was our final stop with Singapore Airlines, so having never stayed there we decided to have a 3 day stopover before heading home. We stayed the three nights at Fairmont Singapore.

What we loved most about Singapore were the sharp and constant contrasts: smoky temples in the shadow of skyscrapers, luxe condos backing onto jungle, old-school shophouses housing secret cocktail dens. We could travel the world without ever leaving the island. One minute I'm in the 'Hong Kong' wet markets and malls of Chinatown, the next the 'Mumbai' street scenes of Little India, the next the red-light 'Patpong, Bangkok' district of Geylang. Dig deeper than the 'sterile' cliches and you'll find a place more complex, contradictory and addictive than you might imagine. Even after countless sojourns, Asia's little red dot never fails to make me swoon.

Things to do:
*** The local food - In Singapore, we love our food. So much so that we’re always queuing for the next must-try restaurant or hawker stall.
*** The year-round shopping - It’s no secret that Singaporeans love to shop. For the best and latest in design, browse through the racks at the new Dover Street Market at COMO Dempsey. Besides the iconic shopping district of Orchard Road, where you can roam the massive Sephora and Uniqlo flagship outlets, shopaholics will have a field day nabbing affordable fashion pieces at Bugis Street, or exploring the unique independent boutique stores of Haji Lane.
*** Local culture - Step away from towering skyscrapers and busy traffic when you visit quaint, unique neighbourhoods in Singapore where tradition meets modernity, such as Chinatown, Dempsey Hill and Tiong Bahru.
*** The iconic architecture - Singapore’s skyline is as iconic as it is picturesque, peppered with unmistakable silhouettes such as the Esplanade and Marina Bay Sands.
*** The parks - Swing by the Singapore Botanic Gardens and explore this UNESCO world heritage site on an NParks Heritage Tour. Then, stroll through Gardens by the Bay, Gardens by the Bay is a huge, colourful, futuristic park in the bay area of Singapore;— marvel at the Cloud Forest and Flower Dome, or hop on a Garden Cruiser tram ride for a guided tour of the Gardens.
*** Waterfront walks along the promenade
*** Dinner or drinks at the Raffles
*** Singapore Half day tour Hotel
*** Singapore F1 Street Circuit Driving Experience
*** Chinatown at night with dinner and cruise
