We leave in almost two weeks...for many months.... to ride our motorcycles down through Mexico, Central America and South America....and then back north to Alaska. Sitting here in the comfort and safety of our home its hard to imagine that we will really accomplish this. We've been planning and organizing for two months though, and we are READY. In fact, we are feeling past ready and getting very anxious to begin.
We expect many challenges. On the other hand, we also hope for many rewards. We understand that this type of adventure isn't for everyone but to us it is a new spark. To quote another adventure rider, "Let us Boldly Go Where......other people live!" For all we know, these may be our best remaining years and we feel compelled to live them out as fully as we can.
Just a few more items to complete on our to-do list .... a consultation with the travel health center to get a few more vaccinations and some prescriptions.....a dentist appointment..... new knobby tires put on our bikes....one more facial.
We've bought new motorcycles for the trip. They are our babies and we will be depending on them to take us far, so we love them much. I will be carrying about 80 pounds of gear between my two panniers and a dry bag on my back seat. Bruce will probably be carrying similar weight. I've seen lots of pictures

We've bought new motorcycles for the trip. They are our babies and we will be depending on them to take us far, so we love them much. I will be carrying about 80 pounds of gear between my two panniers and a dry bag on my back seat. Bruce will probably be carrying similar weight. I've seen lots of pictures
of other adventure riders and their bikes making this trip and the bikes look massively loaded down so I feel like we've done a good job in deciding what to bring and what not to bring. It does make it much easier having two bikes over which to distribute all our gear. I look forward to the simplicity of living off what is on our bikes. I don't have to worry about what I'm going to wear each morning when I wake up...haha. It'll be interesting to see what I have to say after six months of living like this though!!
