The very first day in Arusha

Arusha, Tanzania, 14.02.2020

Wel Here we are... after being on the three different planes, airports and, the taxi, we finally arrived at our new home for the next 20 weeks! We picked our room, went to bed and slept like two little angels. Ellen Made us some breakfast. With eggs, bread, avocado and fruit, it was really delicious.

And than this morning! We could finally see where we actually were, we went on a little adventure towards the city to pick up the other girls.
let me tell you about that... First of all we went with a bus and it was so full!! You had to climb over people to a really small seat. Also there aren't any bus stations, you have to raise your hand and hope that the daladala (that's what the bus is called) stops. It is a whole experience but I find it very interesting to travel, eat and live as the local people, instead of a tourist. However I never felt more ‘touristy’ because I didn’t know the language, the way of saying hello, the way to anything in the city, the different valuta, the food and I can go on and on this way. But I look forward to get to know all of those things, and more. Luckily Ellen is a lot with us in the beginning to guide us.

Also I had my first local African meal! We went to a place for the local people, we didn’t see any tourist here. Everything is in Swahili and you could see that we were ‘different’. The food however, was delicious. It was rice with beans, some kind of spinach and meat. Also the price was very ‘local’, only 3200 shilling. 1 euro is more or less 2500 shilling, so our meal was €1,30 for all of this including drinks! So living a little bit as a local isn’t just very interesting and fun but also very, very cheap.
