First weekend off

Mount Meru Hotel, Arusha, Tanzania, 22.02.2020

Our first week is already passed by! 5 days of internship at the hospital, a lot of experiences impressions and surprises. It was a great week, a heavy week. It passed by very fast, but it feels like I'm away from Holland for ages.

For now, we can relax for two days, gain some energy and than we're heading for another (probebly and hopefully great) week at the maternity unit).
Today it's Saturday and we dicided to go to a very expensive hotel with a beautiful swimming pool in Arusha. It's not very close, 20 minutes in the daladala and 20 minutes walk. The first thing we noticed is the big, big difference between the local and the tourism 'world'. Here around the pool you have everything you can ask for, but on the corner of the street in the hospital, little kids are dying because there families don't have enough money for proper health care...

Maybe it isn't fare that we used these luxe places in the weekends, and try to live as locals through the weeks but when we are here, at this beautiful swimming pool, we're trying to enjoy and to relax but believe me, we're centainly thing about those people who can't have these moments.

But for now, a little about the pool. It's currently 5pm and almost every single one of us is sitting under the beach umbrella, trying not to burn. We're loving this day, chat a little, swim a little, take nice pictures wich we are not nearly brown enough for. You can click on the button from this page for the pictures.

While we were taking those pictures some (probbebly local) people were filming it. We didn't noticed it but some other girl told us about this. Afterwards we watched them and they were probably showing them to each other or edit them... So we are waiting to see us at the Tanzanian dumpert or something like that.

Afterwards Nikki and I couldn't be more happy about the fact that they had CEASER SALAD. We love salads but here in Tanzania we can't eat lettuce because of the (unhygienic) water the people wash the lettuce in.
Also cheese (the same as any other dairy) is very rare and incredibly expensive. But the salad itself, nice idea but no. Yellow mozzarella with two little pieces of the lettuce. But it's fine, we laughed about it, swom a little more and know this for next time, no salads in Tanzania.

Also the weather was funny, it rained so hard, for half an hour non stop. Not rain as with us in Holland, but rain witch is harder that our douche (not that our douchen is that hard but you get it) very very hard rain. But the people here are used to it so everyone just waited until the rain passed away, and continued with there activities.

Tonight we will have a girls night, with cocktails, music and some games like never have I ever. On days like this I feel like I'm on holliday, we really have a great time.
But the differences between our life during the week itself and the weekend is so very big. I'm so not used to that, but maybe I will, eventually.
