These crazy early mornings are just bonkers. I could barely open my eyes this morning. The good news is that the storm passed and the hike went ahead. I had as much breakfast as I could manage at this time of a morning, which was not a lot.
Our guide came to pick us up from our hotel at about 04:10 where we waited and waited for our shuttle, wondering if we would still make the sunrise, it didn't arrive until 05:10. Off we went, about a forty five minute drive, then we headed our way up the trail through the forest in the dark. It wasn't a bad hike at all, lasted about half an hour, just so many big stairs to climb for my little legs. So much exercise for that time in the morning. Getting all hot and bothered I thought we had arrived, however the clouds were in the way of the view and our guide pointed upwards for us to carry on. My face dropped and my reaction was priceless 'ARE YOU KIDDIN' ME RIGHT NOW.' But what looked like miles only lasted another five minutes or so...durrrrrrr.
We arrived at the top of the mountain, 'The Indian Nose,' just in time for us and a few other tourists to enjoy the views of the sun rising over Lake Atitlan. Absolutely stunning.
We were at the top for about an hour before making our way back down, back to the shuttle and back to our hotel. It was still so early, we had the whole day ahead of us.
We chilled out for a little while before getting ready for a day around the lake. We had a little walk, booked our shuttle for our next destination tomorrow, and we walked through the market and to a few different shops. Paul bought some sunglasses and I bought a bracelet. We also managed to change our remaining dollars into Quetzals.
We came across a lovely place to sit and have some lunch overlooking the lake. I enjoyed chicken fajitas and an orange soda while Paul enjoyed his chicken quesadillas and an avocado and milk smoothie.
After lunch we found a good spot for Paul to take some photos with his camera and also using his tripod. We went back to our hotel after that and totally chilled out for a while. We went to dinner again at our restaurant where we shared a pizza which had, and can only be described, as a forest on top of it. What is this rabbit food?!!
We went back to the room and went straight to bed, we were shattered and the alarm is set for 03:30 once again. OUCH.
