The Cicus Maximus is an area that holds significance in the founding of Rome. Not only was it a stadium that housed 250,000 spectators for chariot races it also is situated in between Palantine and Apatine Hill. This is important when we think about the story of how Rome began on Palatine Hill. The Circus was the spot in which a battle took place between Romulus and Remus for who was to choose the location for the city. Also the Circus houses the sacred boundary of the city and this is important in the Rape of the Sabine Women and without those women the city of Rome would never have populated thus ending early on.
