The Ara Pacis is a large alter that is currently residing at the Museo Dell'Ara Pacis. This monument was commissioned by the Roman Senate in 13 BC to honor Augustus' return from Gaul and Spain. It used to sit at the southern end of the Campus Martius. The significance of the Ara Pacis is that it represented Augustus' vision for Rome and it's supposed to communicate prosperity and peace. It also served as propaganda for Augustus and his authority.
