European Holiday June-July 2017

Everyone rose early and checked their bags into a common spare room so we could pick them up later. Mark and Cathy Peden were the first to leave as they were flying to London as they continued their journey.

We went for a final trip around some cafes near Gare du Lyon in order to have a last cultural experience of Paris with the group that was left. After that Priscilla and I went back to the hotel, grabbed our bags and set off for the Airbnb we had booked for four nights.

Our Airbnb is located on Rue Lauriston within five minutes walk of the Arc de Triumphe and about 15 minutes walk from the Eiffel Tower. It is in a more affluent area of Paris and near all the embassies and exclusive houses and many hotels. We had to check in at 3:00 pm so we had to leave the group at 1:00 pm to get back to the hotel and then across town by 3:00 pm.

After settling into the Airbnb we wandered around the neighbourhood and discovered the local bakery, supermarket and deli. Most of what we needed was right across the road. We were able to walk to the Eiffel Tower and enjoy the atmosphere at dusk before returning for a relatively early night.

We were able to view some photos and video of Nana’s funeral which was held in Melbourne today. Joanna flew down to attend, which was nice. It was sad but inevitable that we could not be there. But the memories of Nana are really vivid and she had a lasting and positive effect on our lives.
