After two and a half wonderful months in Africa, we were nevertheless ready for a change in scenery in many respects, but especially in one: food.

Maintaining a vegan diet in both South West Africa and Madagascar had been too difficult and we had quickly devolved into a vegetarian one, resorting to eggs and cheese where these were the only sensible non-meat alternatives. But even a vegetarian diet had its challenges; while we did always find enough to eat, the variety was quite limited. There are just so many times one can eat canned food, or spaghetti with tomato sauce, or bread and cheese, or an omelette with rice, or even a pizza.

In that respect we believe South East Asia will prove different, with a comfortable supply of diverse vegan and vegetarian restaurants to choose from.

And so we said goodbye to Africa and hello to Asia, hopping from Antananarivo (TNR) through Mauritius (MRU) to Singapore (SIN), our first port of call in the Far East.
