Hegia is Going Somewhere

We all went to Venice for our school’s TRAVEL program. I have been to the city before so I knew more or less what to expect. We stayed at Mestre, a nearby city and commuted to Venice everyday by bus. I did not mind, I kind of like it actually. Think of a morning warm-ups...

The most interesting part in Venice this time is the floodings. I never saw it here before, never even imagined this would happen in Europe, while in my country floodings are just like...a normal thing. A lot of tourists walking in line on the platforms at Piazza San Marco. Meanwhile we decided just to walk through the water. It was fun! Floodings can be this fun.

The Phenomenon:
1. Mestre is located 9 km away from Venice. And we always took the bus back and forth. This way, I could see the people and the city closer because bus goes slower than train, for example, so I could see what are outside the window. And the scenery from Mestre to Venice change drastically. From a "dull" looking city to a super touristic one. But there is one thing that bridge this gap nicely, the bridge to Venice. On there we only saw the vast sea around us. So I believe this bridge and natural scenery can act as the transitional element.
2. The city of Venice is connected with a lot of bridges. They look pretty and of course practical. But I was wondering, how all the bridges don't exist? so everybody would have to boat through all the canals to explore the city.
3. We across the sea to the cemetery island close to Venice, and I was really impressed. Just next to the very loud-touristic part of the city,

3. We across the sea to the cemetery island close to Venice, and I was really impressed. Just next to the very loud-touristic part of the city,

there is one isolated place dedicated only for the silent ones. Not only located in separate island, the cemetery is also surrounded by high walls.
4. We stayed for the last couple of days in Verona. And we went to the Juliet's balcony. I was surprised with the walls full of wishes. There is always something in people that want to believe in something by doing something that does not really make sense. But nevertheless, it was beautiful, I feel the soul of the walls that have been filled with wishes from millions of people from a long period of time.
5. We joined the tour of Carlo Scarpa's building, and one of them was the Banca Popolare di Verona (it is a bank..) And I really found the interior interesting. It feels like I was in one of those old spy movies. The use of red colour, the material of the wooden walls, floor, and the details were carefully thought that it created a whole interior feels retro-modernistic. Like one one of those old James Bond movies.
