In 1652, the dutch settled here. The Dutch first settlement is called, Cape Town. After the Napoleonic War, in 1815, South Africa was now becoming a British colony. South Africa gained independence from british colony in 1960. In 1994 Nelson Mandela was elected as president.

Black African: 76.4%
White: 9.1%
Coloured: 8.8%
Indian or Asian: 2.6%
Population: 52.98 million
