Our first stop in Peru was Ollantaytambo, a relatively small town in the Sacred Valley.
During our time here we watched the race day of the Inca Avalanche, a mountain bike race held every year. Being a small town, there was a lot of excitement around the event. After the race had finished there was an after party in the main square, cervazes and live (Spanish) music.
Peru is home to the Pisco Sour, an amazing cocktail made from
Pisco, lime juice, egg whites and sugar. We got our first taste of this cocktail in Ollantaytambo and we also tried Alpaca steak, which was surprisingly good!
Apart from eating and drinking, we explored the Inca ruins nearby and Tom did a day mountain biking the Inca Avalanche course. The drive to the top of the course was amazing, with spectacular views off the valley. The course was super muddy and cold at the top (approximately 4800m altitude), but was super fun, technical rocky and fast. All in all, a great day on the bike.
We then caught our last collective (small local minibus) back to Cusco.
