AUSTRALIA

Everywhere I have seen new birds, mammals and animals and they have mostly been new to me, or similar but not the same. The list of birds is endless and I haven't been able to photograph them all. Australian Ravens are common, very noisy, as is a crow like a magpie, but different too. The black cockatoos and the red tailed black cockatoos live close and soar over the garden most nights. The Willy wagtails pair up and twitter in the garden similar but not the same as the pied wagtails at home. The rainbow coloured lorakeets are everywhere screeching away as are the white cockatoos on my morning walk. The black swans and the pelican are serene on the river, and seeing the river dolphins so unexpected. The Ibis in a local garden were such a suprise too! The parrots in Mundaring are different from the parrots in Fremantle, all beautiful colours. The fairy terns on the river, and the black headed terns nesting and rescued penguins on Penguin Island were beautiful, the squadrons of pelicans there amazing! The first wild kangaroo I saw was enchanting, and the Quokka cute. Sadly the bushfires have been devastating in East Australia and the koalas I've yet to see have been almost destroyed along with many other species. I hope to see them on my next phase of this trip, and the fires to be put out as I head to Melbourne next.
