2015

Another family day out, this time to Portsmouth Historic Dock. It was Lillian's suggestion. She had visited with school the previous week and really enjoyed it. Unfortunately they'd not had time to look around HMS Warrior so that was the main focus of the day.
On arrival we discovered that tickets last for a year and if we purchased the multi attraction ticket we got a 20% discount so we'll be going back to finish it off!
It was an amazing experience. The HMS Warrior is massive, the photos don't really do it justice. It was very interesting to imagine what it would have been like living on the ships. They were very overcrowded and cramped despite they're massive size.
We had a look at the Victory but didn't have time to go in. It was a lovely ornate old ship. The Mary Rose was very interesting. As it was sunk in the Solent during King Henry's reign it is only a wreck and has been undergoing decades of preservation. It is currently being dried out.

Whilst we were there the USS Winston Churchill came into Portsmouth Harbour. It had been out in the Solent protecting/escorting an aircraft carrier. The aircraft carrier was too big to enter the harbour.
