Meteora did not disappoint! We had a wonderful view from our balcony at Alsos' House. We imagined Lincoln and a bulldog in the rocks across the way. Wednesday we spent the morning on a hike with Flori. She was full of information. We first stopped at Dragon's cave and then visited the Great Meteoron and Ypapanti monasteries. We learned that the Greeks bury their dead and then a few years later dig up their bones to put in an ossuary. There was also an extensive military museum within the monastery. Flori told us all about the Greek Orthodox beliefs. We also learned about the mini-shrine mailboxes on the side of the road. These are erected to thank God for safety or to memorialize the spot someone died. Afterwards we had a yummy Greek lunch with warm feta dip. After a brief nap, we drove up, hiked, and watched the sunset. We climbed up to the door of Agios Stephanos but they were closed. Finally we found Alsos from on top of the rocks and snapped that pic.
