THERE AND BACK AGAIN World Cruise 2019

Vigo is Spain's only Atlantic port. The area was originally settled by Celts, oddly a type of bagpipe is a common instrument. We did our last long bus ride and visited Santiago de Compostela, the Catholic Church's third most visited pilgrimage sight behind Jerusalem and Rome. It receives up to 500,000 pilgrims a year and has for a thousand years. The pathway was marked by scallop shells and they are everywhere. Traditionally pilgrims would walk 800 KM from France but now they only have to walk the last 100 KM (or cycle 200 KM). We saw many! The cathedral is believed to hold the remains of St James. You can see in the marble steps above the sepulchre the wear from millions of feet over the years.
