Rome Artifacts

Caracalla was by no means anyone's favorite ruler due to his heartless violence and political rule. He and his brother both inherited the empire when their father died, but they had many disagreements on how to rule and who is the supreme leader. So he killed his own brother right in front of his mother for wanting to split the empire and assassinated all other followers of his brother. He needed to win back some favor with the people and had the baths built right at the entrance of the city so all could see what he had done. The baths were open for all people and were free to use. The baths had a hypocaust section that had burning coals and wood underneath to provide warm water and steam rooms. Then in the center, it had the frigidarium which provided cold water to close the pores after the steam. The ceilings and walls were covered in mosaics and beautiful statues were scattered throughout. All that remains today are some remains of a few massive walls.
