Alaskan Territory
Habitat: Canada, Alaska, the Great Lakes, northern Rockies and Pacific Northwest; Russia, Asia, Middle East, and Europe.
Adaptations:
As we saw wolves have a wide range of habitats, from deserts to tundras. Here in Alaska, the air is very cold and snow is plentiful. For this reason wolves have woolly fur that provides insulation and long guard hairs that keep out
moisture. They also have fleshy paws that extend in the snow to provide support.
To have a more detailed view of this, I drew the wolves' paws to have an idea of it, and compare it to the other gray wolves when we get to Russia.
Their long, bushy tail also works to keep their face warm when lying down for the windy nights.
Gray wolves also vary in fur color which may allow them to blend with their surroundings such as the Tungass Forest or Chugach Forest. Their fur coatings vary from shades of brown and grey, to pure white or black.
Chief Eskimo told us about these features of the wolves, as the tribe keeps close relations with them. They believe them to be spirit animals representing strength and family.
Their howl have me chills at night. Sometimes it was so lonely, but other nights they seemed to howl as one. I might have even feared I was about to become wolf dinner in this cold. Anyways they are such amazing creatures.
