When in Rome

The title of today's entry pretty much sums my day today. Today was Kinjal's last day in Rome. We got up early and headed to the airport with the now familiar Leonardo Express. I had a hard time letting her go by herself, even though I know she is so responsible, mature and oh so smart! This girl can't be tricked. Nonetheless, I waited at the airport till the flight left - it helped that even vending machine cappuccino in Italy is to die for.

I returned to the hotel, took a shower and worked on my Monday presentation till 2 pm. Then I decided to go for a walk and find the best cappuccino, gelatto and tiramisu in Rome.A worthwhile quest you would agree. I took a circuitous route walking through winding backstreets taking pictures and really enjoying the quiet afternoon (pictures). I was heading for the best cafe in Rome - in an area called Sant'Eustachio. Once I arrived, I decided to eat some more local savories first and had a Roman delicacy - roasted artichokes bathed (literally) in olive oil at a nice-looking street cafe, with really friendly and helpful waiters. Unlike Parisians, I think the Romans like their tourists. I had an avocado salad - avocado here is not as good as the one in the United States, and then a

Rome

I had an avocado salad - avocado here is not as good as the one in the United States, and then a

cappuccino and a tiramisu - the latter tasted like custard. Come on people, help me here!

I walked some more and FINALLY found the place I had been looking for - Sant’Eustachio Il Caffé. I ordered my drink. But by this time, I had had 2 coffees already - so had a few sips and let the rest go. The cappu Kinjal and I had the first day was better. I guess that's a memory worth keeping forever. Across thc street was the gelatto store - that claimed it was three hundred years old. Hoping that the gelatto wouldnt be, I had a combination - nocciolla, marsala and pistachio - it was divine. Food in Italy is not very expensive.

I think Rome has lost the tiramisu war - there is better tiramisu in Washington DC than in Rome, after having at least 5 Tiramisus here, I can say that with certainty. I do grant Rome its cappuccinos and gelattos.

At this time, the eat portion of my Eat (Love Pray) quest is over. Going forward it will

be all salad all the time. Number of miles walked today - 6.84. Although I am wondering how accurate these iphone pedometers are. I didn't think I walked that much!
