My exchange life

Well, what to say, Berlin is always an amazing city, especially if you decide to go during the Christmas holidays. A multicultural modern city, telling a sad past, but that always goes forward. A place that at least once in life you have to go!
Now I am going to tell briefly about my cozy weekend in Germany.
We left Friday morning from Denmark very soon, approximately at 5. After about four hours we arrived in Germany, and we stopped in a bar to have breakfast. It seemed very strange switch back to Euro and hear people speaking German. We continue our long bus ride, and at approximately 13 we arrive in Berlin. The weather is not very good, the sky is gray and it is very cold, but we do not stop by the clouds, so after have left our luggages in the hotel we go for out first walk through the city. We visited the Brandeburg Gate, one of the most famous monument in the city and then we were immersed in this fantastic Christmas air.

In the evening, after dinner, we went out again and we headed to the Potsdamer Platz, where many Christmas markets were waiting for us. There was everything and more: clothes, food, Christmas decorations, kiosks where you can drink beer and much more. Although it was evening, it seemed to be day by how many people were on the streets.

The next day we went to visit the Berlin-Hohenschönhausen, he Soviet prison for East Germany. There we could see with our own eyes the different cells and how the prisoners were treated. After we went into East Side Gallery, is the only piece of the wall that still exists today and is about one kilometer long. This part of the wall has been used by several artists, in fact today it is a sort of an opened air gallery.

In conclusion we visited also the most famous square of the city, Alexander Platz with his televison tower, Unter Den Linden, Gendarmen Platz and the Ritter Sport shop.

A weekend that I will not forget easily, and even though I was in Berlin two years ago, it was always a thrilling to be in Germany again. At the same time it was also thoughtful, because I could see how different is Danish culture from the German one, although many think that the they are very similar.
