The Tour Itinerary:
Today our Holy Land and Jordan pilgrimage comes to an end. Following breakfast we will transfer from our hotel to Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv to catch our return flight home.
We had a wake-up call at 4:30, but I was up a little before that. I was in the lobby at 5:05 and had some coffee and two slices of some sort of bread/cake. We left the hotel at 5:30 and were at the airport around 6:15. We went through multiple security checks. For a while I was concerned that we would miss our flight. We finally got to the gate about 8:15 and the plane left at 9:15.
We got breakfast on the plane and arrived at Istanbul at 12:10 their time which made it a two hour flight. Our departure time was 1:55. We went through three security checkpoints and probably walked most of the way across the entire airport before we got to our boarding area. For both arrivals and departures in Istanbul, you land on the tarmac and are bused either to or from the terminal. We got to our seats at 1:30 and the plane took off at 2:15.
The spaces between the aisles on this plane (I think it was the same model as the one we took from SFO to Istanbul) were wider than on the first flight so I had a little more room to get comfortable. Along the way I read a couple of books (both by Agatha Christie), watched two movies ("Danny Collins" with Al Pacino and "The Devil Wears Prada" with Meryl Streep; both were entertaining), and listened to some music. The time seemed to pass quicker than I anticipated for what was a 13 and a 1/2 hour flight.
We arrived at SFO at 4:30, cleared passport control and got our bags. As it turned out, Sarah had been on a business trip, and her flight also landed at 4:30. She walked over to the International Terminal where Matt picked up her and the Hacheys. Mike retrieved me and whisked me home. That evening I fixed myself a large Manhattan, Mike and I shared a pizza, and I told Mike all about my trip.
I enjoyed my trip immensely, but it is always nice to be back home.
