Matt & Erin Europe Travel Diary

We took an early train from Munich to Dusseldorf and arrived in time to check in to our hotel before heading to my visa interview appointment. For convenience we chose a hotel in the area close to Dusseldorf Hauptbahnhof (central station), however the area appeared to bit somewhat of red light district so we didn't do much exploring after dark!
My visa interview was stressful and the staff were unhelpful but in the end it got sorted and my passport was sent off to the UK for a new visa entry vignette. We paid extra to have my passport processed within 5 days working days but even so we did not fancy staying around Dusseldorf for another week so we stayed for 2 nights and then took the train to Berlin.

On our second day in Dusseldorf we did some sightseeing. Once we got into the central business district of Dusseldorf it was a lot nicer than the area around our hotel, but it is a small city without much to do or see and we found it difficult to find good food.

We were excited to have a proper Turkish kebab for dinner on our last night, as there were a huge number of Turkish restaurants right around our hotel, but we found that the kebabs had been 'Germanised' to include a ridiculous amount of cabbage and topped off with a curry sauce! It was disgusting.

We were happy to leave Dusseldorf by train on 23/07/16 and head to Berlin.
