Nora spent the night with Stefan and Chantal last night, so we were on our own for the morning. We decided to go to Fort York.
Fort York is an 1812 fort, though nothing is left from 1812. Many of the buildings are from 1815, and some were rebuilt during the Depression. When you enter the fort through the visitors' center, you pass through a series of screens with video of fighting, and between screens that look like trees, so it feels like you're entering the fort during the battle. The Americans actually defeated the British there, and the British blew up their stash of black powder so the Americans wouldn't get it. There happened to be a barracks tour starting when we got there, so we looked around those, and then saw a musket firing.
Something the 1812 soldiers never could have imagined: hundreds of people in workout gear, exercising to loud amplified music, right outside the gates of the fort!
After that, it was time to drive (slowly, in lots of traffic), to meet up with Scott and Minna and family for brunch.
Nora wanted to go to the university book store for a sweatshirt, so we did that and saw her academic building again.
Nora got her sweatshirt. Tom did NOT get this one.
Also, they each found their store!
Nora's other errand was buying succulents for her room, which we did at Kensington Market.
After that errand, it was time to meet up with Stefan and Chantal for dinner, and back out to Missisauga to our motel.
