After so nicely not doing anything at the 4000 islands :-), we booked our bus trip to the next destination "Cambodia". Well, to be precise, to Siem Reap, because we decided to spend only 3 days in Cambodia, so we would have enough time left in Vietnam.
Siem Reap is absolutely breathtaking. So much history and so many beautiful places to visit! Because the area is very big and the temperature boiling hot, we rented a tuk tuk for 2 days. That's a taxi on a motorbike that drives you around for the 2 days. Our driver/ tour guide was Jonny and he would drive us around, explains us a bit about the different places, drop us us at the next temple and than would wait for us at the other end of the temple.
I didn't take a
picture, but especially when you are around Angkor Wat, the most famous temple, you will see like 100 tuk tuk's at the exit of the temple and it's a challenge to find your driver back, as most of the drivers hang a small hammock in the sitting part of the tuk tuk and take a nap every time (not that I can blame them as most temples take like 2 hours to walk through). Most tuk tuk's look the same and sometimes you need to wake up one or two wrong drivers, but at the end you always find the correct one back ;-p
After visiting Angkor Wat for 2 days we tried to book a bus to Vietnam for the next day and then found out that you can't receive a visa on arrival in Vietnam like in Thailand, Laos and Cambodia, but that you need to apply before and wait 2 business days. Shit! As is was Friday evening, we already booked our hotel and internal flight in Vietnam and we had only 24 hours to get there :-S Thank g'd I am married to someone that dealt with so many crisis's in projects ,that without blinking, in complete silence and the help of the internet, he started
to look at all the options (as I am apparently not very useful in this not blinking and being quiet part, I got the task to be quiet, look pretty and watch some television ;-P). One hour later was the conclusion that we would fly into Vietnam instead and if we would apply for an urgent visa online, we would be able to make it. So optimistically we woke up early the next day to get ready to leave for the airport, but still without the required printed visa. It took in the end longer than the promised 2 hours and we ended up finally receiving the visa 45 minutes before taking off, running to make it on time for the departure as they couldn't let us check in till we had the printed visa :-S Pff... that was onces and never again! (Papa, you would have had a small heart attack if you would have been there!) The amount of stress and money that it took was ridiculous, but on the bright side, we probably will never forget to apply for a visa again ;-P
Vietnam here we come!
