Chapter 6 Exploring!

Curiosity is the key to creativity.

The residency is about a twenty-minute drive from the nearest town and around us is nothing but raw nature.

For a curious, active, easily distracted explorer like myself, this is the perfect set-up for a focused workflow.
All we can do here is hike, relax, or eat, leaving plenty of space to work.
Additionally, the lack of distraction makes my writing sessions potent and productive.

But that doesn't mean there is no space for outdoor fun!
Every step you take around the house and into the endless fields, tracks, and up the mountains is equally beautiful and inspiring. Yesterday we followed along a fire break up to a peak. We stopped and took in the views over the other sierras, eagles flying overhead. The Cortijo looked delicate and pristine from there.

As so many artists have been roaming around here before us, we find installations, forlorn pieces, and decorated stones as far as several kilometres from the house. Wandering through the landscape, the distinction between human and natural art becomes blurry.

We soak up these impressions and churn them into our creative work, like a piece of sheep's fur that becomes a wool thread and a beautiful piece of clothing.

I am already thinking about ways to replicate this magic when I'm back home.
