After spending Christmas Eve eating burgers from the barbeque with a totally random (yet very friendly) group of people, Matt picked me up at the end of his shift and we drove through Sydney. At this point it was after midnight so Christmas had officially started!
In the morning, we didn’t wait long to start opening the presents under the tree. We both insisted on wearing Santa hats during this process even though it was already too hot to be wearing a thick fluffy hat! After the present opening, we made ourselves a mega breakfast of scrambled eggs, tomato and chorizo on toast. Before we knew it, it was time to get ready for our guests to arrive. We had 5 other fellow Christmas orphans joining us for a beach day and barbeque. When everybody got here we sat out on the grass drinking bubbles and eating nibbles. When the bubbles had run dry, we decided it was time to get in the sea so we all headed down to the beach. Matt with his surf board and me with our newly inflated donut! Despite treacherous conditions that day due to a very strong current, we had an awesome time frolicking in the sea. The donut was a big success with everyone and Matt got to have a Christmas day surf! Not too shabby. Everything was going so well until it was time to start the barbeque. It turns out if you don’t have gas you cant light the barbeque. So… we had to adapt and instead of shrimps on the barbie it was shrimps under the grill! It all tasted good anyway and nobody cared so we had a great evening and ended it off with a game of three-tiered articulate! A really fun day but I feel like I am still waiting for the real Christmas day…
Everybody always raves about New Years Eve in Sydney claiming that the fireworks are the best in the world. So we thought we’d better get a good look at them. Matt finished work at 6 so he came home and we had a steak and

Everybody always raves about New Years Eve in Sydney claiming that the fireworks are the best in the world. So we thought we’d better get a good look at them. Matt finished work at 6 so he came home and we had a steak and
chips dinner here before walking along the beach into Manly. We had booked one of the ferries that left Manly at 10pm to take us into Sydney harbour where we could watch the fireworks shooting off the harbour bridge. We were really lucky to watch the incredible firework display from such an amazing viewpoint. It was well worth it. We didn’t take any photos but instead sat back and just enjoyed the spectacle with our eyes. The best thing was that once the fireworks had finished the boat delivered us back to Manly where we could stroll back along the beach to our flat without having to deal with any crowds of people.
