50th Anniversary Round the World Trip
Since the flight to Kathmandu from Athens is a long way, we selected Doha in Qatar to make our connection. We had a layover of eight hours, so we spent them wandering through a magnificent airport.
It turns out that the 2023 world expo will be held here later in the year and they were getting ready for that.
We looked for a restaurant that served Qatari food, and we even asked, but they said that there was none as we were in an international airport (!?!)
Nonetheless, we were so impressed with the meditation garden and the sleep pods, which we were, unfortunately, unable to use.

Interlude: Transiting through Qatar

Since the flight to Kathmandu from Athens is a long way, we selected Doha in Qatar to make our connection. We had a layover of eight hours, so we spent them wandering through a magnificent airport.
It turns out that the 2023 world expo will be held here later in the year and they were getting ready for that.
We looked for a restaurant that served Qatari food, and we even asked, but they said that there was none as we were in an international airport (!?!)
Nonetheless, we were so impressed with the meditation garden and the sleep pods, which we were, unfortunately, unable to use.
Their open-air Apple Store was just as crowded!
Finally at 2:30 am we took off for Kathmandu!
A little background. Remember the song, Katmandu by Bob Seger? Well....after the horrific earthquake in Nepal in 2015, Bob Seger donated proceeds from the song, Katmandu, and urged his fans to help the people there who lost family and their homes. And so,
"K-K-K-K-K-K-Katmandu! it's really really where we're going to!"
