Mykonos

In 2015 we planned our first trip to Greece, choosing a smaller European cruise line, Celestyal, wanting a smaller ship experience. Now we have the opposite experience, visiting on a ship that’s twice as large.

By tradition, Mykonos doors and windows can only be painted blue, green or red.

In olden days sailors used to paint their doors and windows blue, farmers painted them green and everyone else’s were red.

The houses are white to reflect heat during the summer. Shops seem to adhere to the color traditions as well.

The first time we visited Mykonos, we heard about their resident pelican and spent a lot of time walking the waterfront, hoping to see him. This bird has a 7-foot wingspan! Alas, we never saw him.
But this time we planned!!
We found out that there is an actual waterfront church that he likes to hang out at.
…and we found his favorite water front beach
…and we had a fabulous dinner at a restaurant where the waitress told us about the time Petros was just outside the door when she was leaving for the evening. She was on a first name basis with him!

So…..you can probably guess after all that planning…

Alas, again. No Petros.

However Mykonos is so beautiful, we got over it.
Mykonos is called the island of the winds, and we can attest to that!
Aren’t the windmills picturesque?
