Our 2017 Northwest USA Adventure

We started our day very early. The KOA that we are staying at is really the only show in town as far as private campgrounds. The campgrounds in the National Park are on a come first, come serve basis. We didn’t want to take that chance so we booked this KOA. Part of the package is a raft float down the Snake River. We picked the 7:00 AM trip.

They told us that we had to be at the camp office at 6:30, so we set the alarm for 6:00. When we got to the office no one was there. We waited until about 6:45 then Tim walked out to the main road and called. They said that someone should be there and to wait. Finally the light went on around 6:55. The man who was going to drive us to the river approached us and another couple. When he went to open the door of the van it was locked. They could not find the key so he got his own car and drove us there.

We finally made it to the departure spot at 7:30. We were both thinking that we could have enjoyed another 45 minutes of shut eye!

We took off down the river in a raft with a total of 7 people including the guide. We saw a number of bald eagles on our way. It was way too calm of a ride for Tim. Actually Pat would have enjoyed a few more bumps. The people were super nice but as Tim said, it was like sitting in a living room floating down a river enjoying each other’s company. We got back around 10:30.

After the float we were starved! We headed into the town of Jackson Hole and had a delicious breakfast at The Bunnery. Tim had a Mexican egg dish and Pat had eggs with cheese, shredded potatoes a chocolate croissant.

We then walked around town. There were lots of interesting and unusual shops but many of them sold upscale clothing, art and jewelry. We did see some awesome art. Pat got a new hat but she is no where near Tim’s collection! Really neat place.

From there we went up Teton Drive to Jenny Lake. We initially planned to hike around the lake but it began to rain. The sun came out enough for us to see some really beautiful views.

Our last stop of the day was Jackson Hole Ski Resort. We tool a lift about 3/4 up the mountain where you have long views of the valley. There is a restaurant there where you can sit outside enjoying the views and have a drink and appetizers. We didn’t spend time there because they told us that there was a possibility of lightening and that they would not run the lifts and we could be at the top for a while. We didn’t want to take that chance. Besides that, we were both tired from a long day.

We headed back to our Airstream to get some rest before we headed out in the morning.
