First days in Japan.

Yesterday at 10pm we arrived to our new apartment in Kyoto after a 24 hour travel encompassing 2 flights of 6 and 9 hours. Kaoru and Shunnsuke met us with presents (a bottle of Sake and shot glasses), the keys to our apartment and some first necessities like food and towels. But what made our evening was the toilet's lid friendly lifting up upon our entry into the bathroom.

Today we spent our first full day in Kyoto. A bit jet-lagged we got up at 6am, not completely rested but also not able to sleep anymore. We got coffee at the Colorado Coffee Company, which unexpectedly turned out to look rather Japanese inside. The tiny chairs and tables made Georg look rather gigantic (not for the last time today).

After initial shopping in Fresco and the realisation that 80% of the products have an unknown, only in Japanese labeled content, we

went to the university. It took us a while to figure out how to buy tickets for the train.

The rest of the working day, Shunnsuke took us around the city registering our address, getting a working permit of Zhenya, opening bank accounts, showing Georg around the lab.

We then had an early dinner in a place close to uni and took a bus to a very big store where we could buy house utilities. So now we are tired and still jet-legged and want to watch the avatar series!
