A Trip of a Lifetime!

I had a massive breakfast to start the day, beans, hashbrows, you name it! Today we were going on a day tour of Fraser Island on a big 4x4 bus! We needed this vehicle as the whole island is made of sand, this also meant that it was a very bumpy ride! Our first stop was lake McKensie, a beautiful fresh water late with crystal clear water. The urban myth is that the water makes your hair incredibly soft because of its low ph. Unfortunately it was cloudy in the morning but that wasn’t a problem, it was nice to have a break from the sun! After an hour of swimming and chilling on the beach we headed to our next stop for the day, the rain forest! Here we were taken on a board walk lead by our guide Mark who showed us various species of tree and a large fresh water creek which was also so so clear!
We stopped at a buffet lunch on the other side of the island. Again this food was amazing, I had a chickpea curry with rice and mash potatoes and even went up for seconds. We were given the option in the afternoon to decide whether we wanted to go in the plane and see the island from the sky. The 4 of us from Topdeck jumped at the chance to do this. It was so much fun! The best part about it was that we took off and landed on the beach so you had amazing views of the ocean too. I managed to spot a whale in the sea from the plane! We also saw various lakes from the plane including Lake McKensie where we had been this morning and the rainforests which looked like little groups of broccoli! After landed on the beach, we boarded our 4x4 bus again and took a speedy trip along the long stretch of beach. The sun was very much out now which made the views so beautiful. We stopped first to check out the Maheno shipwreck, a boat half the size of the titanic which crashed onto Fraser Island around 1935. It was amazing how much this large vessel had sunk underneath the Fraser Island sands. Our last stop for the day was Eli Creek, the largest fresh water creek on the island. Here both locals and tourists were able to swim and chill out in the sunshine. After a bumpy two hour drive back to our resort which was on the other side of the island, we had a couple of hours to rest and recharge our batteries. We went to a beach bar in the evening for dinner, however Porscha decided not to join given that she had a bad back. We walked to the restaurant in the dark and I was nervous about being eaten by a Dingo! We hadn’t yet seen one unfortunately, but at the same time I was quietly relieved! I had a smoked salmon ceasar salad for dinner after an unhealthy day. Headed back up to the resort around 8pm and was asleep by 9 after a tiring day!
