ABOUT AMAZON JUNGE:
The eastern part of Ecuador consists mostly of tropical moist broadleaf forests that cover the lower slopes of the Andes and spill down into the Amazon Basin. The upland rainforest is strikingly different to that which is found in the lower basin and features steep, rugged ridges and cascading streams and waterfalls.

Today was an early start, 6:15 alarm to pack my bag and jump in a minivan for a 20-minute drive to the bus station. We caught a local bus to Tena; it was a long drive with only two stops, which was one more than usual. It was a very scenic drive, and I sat with our new tour leader who gave me information as we went. We arrived in Tena bus station and transferred to 2 minivans and drove c40 minutes to our lodge for the next two day, Suchipatari Jungle Lodge and arrived at 2:30. We were all starving at this point, and thankfully, a three-course lunch had been prepared for us.
We quickly checked in and regrouped for a hike to a nearby lookout. Mostly it was quite a nice flat walk, until the last section, which was very steep but well worth the view when we reached the top. The light was starting to fade, so we headed back to camp for dinner. Afterwards, many of us talked and had cervezas until late.

Today was a sleep in, of sorts, breakfast wasn’t until 8 am. Afterwards, we had a c30 minutes walk to a motorised canoe and took a trip up the Napo river to a local community who demonstrated their weaving, pottery, and cooking techniques.
Next, we all jumped in tubes and floated down the river back to the lodge. The water currents were not strong; however, we actually kept going past our lodge. We were picked up by the canoe, which had been following us and we parked up on a small beach and ate lunch and then got back on board the canoe and travel back to the Amazon lodge.
We had a little time to freshen up, but we finished the afternoon making a chocolate dessert from scratch. We roasted, ground and conch chocolate beans into a chocolate sauce. Which immediately we ate with some fresh fruit.

After dinner we all went to the bar again, I didn’t drink that much and was ready to go to bed when the heavens unloaded! I waited for about 1 hour but there was still no signs of it stopping, so I decided to make a run for it. Luckily, as it rained for the entire night.
I’ve officially now seen rain in the Amazon Rainforest!
