My diary

This marble sculpture of Augustus can be found right by the train station at the Palazzo Massimo. Around 12 AD, which this sculpture was also believed to be made, Augustus appointed himself as the high priest until he died in 14 AD. He was also the adopted heir of Julius Caesar, since Julius didn’t have any legitimate children of his own. He was the son of Gaius Octavius, giving him the name Octavian, until he changed it to Augustus once he was in power. Once Caesar was assassinated, Augustus came into power and took over Rome. This sculpture helps share the story of Rome because Augustus was the founder of the Roman Empire, and he drastically expanded it while being the first Roman emperor. He was also responsible for the defeat of Antony and Cleopatra, which also brought expansion and unification in the Roman Empire. His ruling lasted from 27 BC to 14 AD, giving him a 40-year reign over the empire. After his death, Tiberius was his successor over the Roman Empire. Augustus was the leader that gave the drastic start to an empire that would last for centuries
