My Travels through South Africa and Thailand

So, what a day, filled with so many different emotions. The day started off not the greatest, as when I woke up, I tried to go socialise with some other people staying in my dorm but when I approached them, they got up and walked away making me feel a bit left out although I didn't dwell on it for long as I knew, I would be going out at midday on my tour, so I decided to spend the morning relaxing by the pool with my book. The pool is clean and has a bridge going over the centre of it, so it looks as if it has been split into two pools and is surrounded by several parasols, sunbeds and some new build modern apartments. seems to be quiet so it means that I can listen to my music and enjoy the peace.

At 12, I met my tour guide at reception ready to begin our walking tour round the town centre of Cape Town; we were due to get a bus into town but the system had gone offline meaning that we could not purchase tickets, so we ended up getting an Uber into town. Turned out I was the only one on this tour, so it felt less like a tour and more like a friend. I was shown around Parliament Street, Greenmarket Square, St George's Cathedral, Long Street, VOC Gardens as well as some of the history around the beginning of Cape Town and slavery. The tour guide didn't seem to be in the mood today, so actually I found it quite rubbish and a lot of the information I had to Google once I got back as he did not know the answer to so many questions I asked. To be quite fair, he just could not be bothered to do the tour and it all felt very half hearted. We must have returned to SaltyCrax around 4.00 so I jumped in the shower and begun getting ready for my night out with Stine and her friends. I also invited Morgan along as he didn't know anyone so thought it would be nice for him to have something to do plus meet with him again before he goes back to England. Stine and Morgan arrived around 7.45 and we all ordered some drinks. The drinks kept coming with us taking it in turn to buy the round; everyone was in high spirits and couldn't wait to get to the bar to start the karaoke. The bar was only a couple of minutes' walk from our hostel so we got there around 9.00; me and Stine had agreed to do a duet so we settled for Breaking Free from High School Musical. I was quite lively tonight so also done Summer Nights from Grease, Cha Cha Slide and Wannabe by the Spice Girls and by the end of the night, the DJ did not even have to ask for my name when I went up and put in a song request. Loads of people got involved with the karaoke singing well-known songs and some not so well-known songs; one of my favourites was when some guys sang Country Roads though. There were some locals at the bar as well as all of us volunteers and one lady was dancing by herself looking a bit lost so I decided to go join her (bear in mind my dancing is rubbish) turned out that she was a professional dancer and I just felt like I had 2 left feet, well to be honest, I do. When doing the Cha Cha slide, I quickly realised that I am incapable of singing and dancing at the same time; just look at the video to see what I mean. We also had an African shot called a Springbok which was some kind of minty liquor and Baileys which was nice, plus not too strong either. Jonas finally got the confidence to sing towards the end, so he sang You Raise Me Up and he sounded incredible! I think he even surprised himself especially when he got a little round of applause!

The evening has been incredible, filled with laughs, dancing, singing and great company plus I even liked my hair down natural for the first time in ages.

So that is the end of my crazy day; it has just gone midnight and I am home, curled up and very soon going to drop off ready to recuperate for my day tomorrow.
