My Travels through South Africa and Thailand

I slept like absolute rubbish once again, I am beginning to become rather grumpy from the lack of sleep so I have booked myself in for some accommodation on Koh Samui from Thursday, so fingers crossed I will be able to catch up on my sleep then. I spent the morning with the windows wide open, earplugs in and drifting in and out of sleep as the breeze drifted through the room helping to keep me cooler than at night. I eventually, come 1pm, persuaded myself to get up, showered and dressed; I could not believe how much I stank this morning due to the sweat despite having a shower just before I went to bed last night. I have never woken up in my life before and been repulsed at my own smell, I bet Richard is just glad he is back in England right now.

After the shower I felt so much more refreshed, ready for the afternoon ahead. I was not going to make the same mistake as yesterday and forget to eat so I went and grabbed a mango and chicken salad from the beachfront which was nice although very oily, especially towards the bottom of the bowl. After I had finished, I decided to go sit by the pool for the remainder of the afternoon until it was time for Muay Thai. Four o’clock came around a lot quicker than I expected so I did not get long until I had to be there ready to fight. Today we learned front kicks and body blocks as well as doing quite a few combinations whilst moving around like in a real fight scenario. I can feel the improvement from when I first started, what with the increase in power, flexibility and better posture especially keeping my hands in front of my face for protection. During the warmup, I could already feel my core muscles complaining about having to work again after yesterday and by the end, after we done many sit ups, my abs felt like they were punching me from the inside; this is one type of punch that you can’t dodge. Once finished, I headed back to my room for a shower; I was so hot that as the water touched my head, it instantly seemed to warm up as it ran over my body. I never thought I would be grateful for a cold shower before, but it seems that travelling is full of surprises.

Before I came travelling, I would never have considered myself particularly girly but here I am getting ready for a night out, halfway around the world and missing my eye shadow, lipstick, hair pins, extensions, heels, handbag and the rest; I think it is just the joy of being able to do something slightly different with your hair and face that I am missing the most when I go on a night out. I am getting fed up with the same 5 clothes and just keep thinking about my wardrobe at home with all my dresses, playsuits, jumpsuits, denim skirt, tracksuit bottoms... I never realised having so many clothes was such a luxury that I have taken for granted. I guess to that degree, travelling makes you more humble. At 7pm, me, Jack and Georgia all headed down to the beachfront to grab some dinner. We went to the restaurant Jack took us to the other day

We went to the restaurant Jack took us to the other day

and once again it was very tasty and did not fail to make me full. Jack found an acoustic bar to sit at whilst me and Georgia went to the fire show as some others were also down there plus Georgia could then see her lover boy (sorry Georgia, I love you really). There were more of them performing tonight and once again it was impressive, it is strange as watching the same thing, you would think that it would get boring, but it doesn’t. At 10.20pm we went to watch the ladyboy show that we had seen advertised the previous night; to be perfectly honest, it was not that impressive as they all looked miserable, as if they did not really know the dance moves and were just in rehearsal, so we left after 45 minutes to return to the fire show. What I did find impressive though was their figures, you would never realise they were men other than for their slim hips, broad shoulders, and a couple of them had more masculine jaw lines as well. Their make-up and hair though were done incredibly.

Once back at the fire show, my fire boy admirer invited me up to dance; I did not decline as I wanted a chance of fire dancing, he first swung the balls of flames close to my body and I was surprised that you couldn’t even feel the heat. Afterwards, he passed me the fire balls and I had a chance to swing them around myself; they were heavier than I expected so quite hard to swing, but I was having a whale of a time. Once the fire show finished at 1.00am, there was a small, yet lively crowd left so everyone got up to dance

along to the music. It felt so good to be dancing on the beach, I know I done it at the full moon party as well, but this felt different, it was smaller and everyone was dancing together and speaking. There were no cares, at least until my admirer ruined it for me slightly as he does not seem to know how to take no for an answer. He started saying that he doesn’t care that I have someone at home, that you only live once so I should take the risk, that he would wait for me to return to Koh Tao. I tried telling him that I care that I have someone at home, that he isn’t worth the risk and I wouldn’t be returning; this just led him to go sit in the corner looking really upset and he kept looking at me all sad then started telling me that he loved me, this just infuriated me. The crowd must have only consisted of around 20 people so there was no way I could escape him so by 3am I couldn’t be bothered to deal with him anymore so left and headed back to the hotel hoping that I would be able to wake up in time for Muay Thai tomorrow – not that I am going to set an alarm so this is the risk that I am taking in my life ha-ha!
