My Travels through South Africa and Thailand

I had such a broken sleep last night which led to me feeling so tired this morning when my alarm went off to get me up for my Muay Thai class that begun at 8am; I was so tempted to just shut off the alarm and go back to sleep but I knew I still had to get up as I had to move rooms this morning. Other than my calf aching, my body felt surprisingly good considering I thought my body was exhausted yesterday. Once we had finished the warmup, I felt a lot more awake and was pleased I had got out of bed for the morning session as it was a lot cooler than the evening as well. We got straight into combinations today, which were longer than yesterday as well as more intense but thankfully, as me and Georgia took it in turns, this also enabled me to have a longer break in between. We also done a lot of core work today as well as more cardio, with a small drill where we alternated between kicks and punches quickly. By the time the class was complete, I felt so invigorated although hungry, but yet I still had to move the final bits from my old room into my new room which I would now be sharing with Michella. The reason for the change in rooms is 3 people left this morning as they were only on the 3-week trip so, therefore, we had to condense and check out of 2 rooms and considering I had a double bed, it made more sense for me to move to Michella’s room where there are separate beds.

Once I had unpacked all my stuff again, me, Michella and Georgia all headed to grab some fruit for breakfast before our beach day. We walked to the far end of the beach today where there were more reefs and the sand was fine. We set our stuff down in some shade on the beach before going snorkeling; for some reason, my mouthpiece kept getting water in it today, so I ended up just lying on the beach on a sunbed with a cold cider instead whilst I read my book. Michella left first as she had a scuba diving course, then me and Georgia left around 1.30pm to go grab some lunch and get out of the sun. We found a restaurant that had a lot of vegan options for Georgia and I was happy as I had some poached egg with avocado on toast; it feels like ages since I have last had that. After lunch, we decided it would be best if we went back to the hotel and sat under the canopy, they have there around the pool so that we didn’t get too much sun exposure for one day. We each lay on a large bean bag and put a movie on to watch although I was feeling rather sleepy by this point so ended up having a quick nap. This was how we spent the rest of our afternoon.

It was around 18.00 when we decided to go and get changed and ready for dinner down on the beach front. Unfortunately, we just missed the sunset by the time we got down there, but dinner was delicious anyway as well as quick service and for once, our meals came out together which is a rarity in Thailand. Another odd culture that they have on Koh Tao is that before entering a shop or restaurant, you need to take your shoes off and leave them outside, if anyone can enlighten me as to why this is then feel free to tell me.

That has been my very relaxing day; at least my tan is starting to even out on my front now. It feels nice to finally have some proper free time with no clock watching.
