My Travels through South Africa and Thailand

Okay, so last night turned out not to be quite as early as what I expected as I realised some people would not be here when I woke up today, so I went down to pay Hope and Daisy a visit so that I could say goodbye to them before they return home. The goodbye turned into a slightly extended chat and laugh so by the time I actually went to bed, it was around midnight.

I woke up this morning feeling as if I had slept so well and I even woke up naturally for breakfast. Me and Jack had discussed going for a walk to the mall today which is about 5km away, so I messaged him once I had finished my breakfast, but someone was deciding to be a sleeping beauty, so I decided to make the most of my time and use the washing machine to wash some of my clothes. I was able to not just wash, but also dry my clothes by the time Jack woke and was ready to begin the walk, so that was a bonus, plus by the time we did leave, Georgia felt less hungover and was able to join us. It was still hot outside today but there was also a nice breeze which made the walk bearable; we also stopped for an ice

It was still hot outside today but there was also a nice breeze which made the walk bearable; we also stopped for an ice

cream on the way as well which was such a good call in the heat. The walk took just over an hour and we quickly realised that there is no pedestrian right of way in Bangkok with cars not stopping at roads to let you cross and motorbikes riding down the pavements. Motorbikes seem to be a huge part of the Thai culture as they are everywhere, you cannot walk even a few seconds without seeing at least one in Bangkok.

When we reached Siam Center, which was in the new part of Bangkok, we noticed a change in the architecture as well as an increased number of overpasses to cross the roads. The mall was massive, and I know for a fact, despite spending several hours walking around, there was no way we saw even half of it. The shops were like those at home with only the odd different one thrown in such as Sephora which I got a concealer from simply as you cannot get them in England. I also bought myself 5 new pairs of trainer socks as somehow, I have managed to lose 1 complete pair and then 2 socks from 2 different pairs when my washing was done back in Africa. I don’t know how socks always manage to go missing in the laundry.

After the walk back, I felt absolutely shattered and knowing I would not get much sleep tonight due to being on an overnight bus, I managed to have a good two hours' kip before I had to start

packing and head down to meet some others for street food. We checked out of our hotel at 8.00pm and headed to the end of the road where we would be meeting the coach to take us through the night down to Koh Tao. The coach for this journey is very basic so I think I was right in assuming I would be getting very little sleep tonight as the seats are not comfortable and I have only been on it for 3 hours with still a further 6 hours to go till we reach the pier where we will then catch the boat across to the island.
