My Travels through South Africa and Thailand

I woke up at 1pm, my sleep was broken due to the light coming in and my body's instinct, but I managed to rest well enough to feel as if I had enough sleep. It was a blessing with hardly anything being open in the morning. Sometime earlier, Britt had messaged me saying to meet for dinner later, so I calculated I had around 2 hours to fill before I had to meet her. I decided to try and top up my tan and just spend the day relaxing on the rooftop pool. The pool was nice, there was a small jacuzzi and a reasonable sized pool considering there were not too many people using it. The only downside to the pool was there were no parasols to shade yourself from the sun, so it turned into a constant battle with jumping in and out of the pool to remain cool. To be fair, the time to meet Britt could not have come at a more perfect time, just as I was beginning to get too hot from the sun.

I met Britt back at the Green House to explain how to book the buses for our next trip to Laos, so that she felt confident that she knew where she was going to be and that all her bits had been correctly booked with no overlap. She done it all correct by herself, with just one minor change where she would stay longer with more things to do than the quiet village like she had initially booked, but I do think she found it reassuring to just have a second set of eyes to double check it. Whilst sitting here, a couple of people, mainly from Argentina who were also travelling alone but met out here, came over and started talking to us about their experience with travel; the best ways to meet new people, how to travel cheap and where they would recommend. A lot of the advice made sense although I could tell it would need a lot of belief in myself and to try to be confident in talking to people first rather than forever staying isolated in my room and letting my mind drive me crazy.

As I lay in bed tonight hearing the music outside, I realised I could not spend another night inside going crazy from the thumping. I had made the decision to be independent and go travelling alone, so now time to put myself out there and go have a drink in a bar before it got louder later and see if I could meet any other travellers. I will just say it did not exactly go to plan; I guess I overestimated my potential in coming travelling alone and what I was capable of. I am now ready to return home to my family, fiancé and friends as for the time being, I have had enough of being so far away from my support circle and those that mean the most to me. The world isn’t always the nicest of places and travelling with total strangers takes its toll in the end.

I am done with tonight’s entry; I need to go and sort some bits out for my return home tomorrow.
